Summer 2012 Episode Rankings – Week 7

The Olympics are over, and we’re back to the usual 16 series! 🙂 Also, I’ve changed most of the series links from MAL to A-P (my personal preference), as the site actually has a synopsis and screenshots up for most of this season’s anime by now!

Delays in posts and general inactivity are likely between this Friday and next, as I’m making my annual trip to Reading, and won’t have internet access – I actually get back on Tuesday, but I’ll have a lot of episodes to catch up on first! I am hoping to pick up and read a lot of manga while down there, though. 😀

1 – Natsuyuki Rendezvous (7)

2 – Kokoro Connect (7)

3 – Binbougami ga! (7)

4 – Uchuu Kyoudai (20)

5 – Eureka Seven AO (16)

6 – Sword Art Online (7)

7 – Yuru Yuri ♪♪ (7)

8 – Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita (7)

9 – Tari Tari (7)

10 – Moyashimon Returns (7)

11 – Phi Brain: Kami no Puzzle 2 (19)

12 – Rinne no Lagrange Season 2 (7)

13 – Oda Nobuna no Yabou (7)

14 – Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon II (7)

15 – La Storia Della Arcana Famiglia (7)

16 – Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse (7)

General comments:

  • Moving up: Binbougami-ga! Rindou may borrow a lot from Urusei Yatsura‘s Ryuunosuke, but I’m not complaining. This episode was much funnier than the last few!
  • Moving down: Eureka Seven AO. I was looking forward to its return after two weeks… but ep 16 was relatively lacking. 😦 Another promising twist at the end, though!
  • Uchuu Kyoudai was good as usual, especially considering all the characters did this week was recap, clean up, and play a game of rock – paper -scissors. 😛
  • Kokoro Connect seems to be getting comfortable up in second place at the moment, but I’d like to see it place first at least once this season. It has the potential.
  • I’ve heard that the ‘main plot’ of Sword Art Online starts in episode 8, so hopefully that means the end of repetitive and episodic (if very well animated) harem building.

I put AO on hold, but I bet things felt out of place thanks to the two week hiatus. Just throwing my two cents out there 😀

    • Pacing-wise, I think it would have worked better if the break had been after episode 16, that way it would have ended on a cliffhanger as opposed to the episode building up to that cliffhanger. Still, when the reason behind the delay is the Olympics, what can you do? 😛

The harem stuff inn Sword Art should end asap. XD It’s hilariously weird cause Kirito is not macho at all, but all the girls seem to think he is.

If they’d kept the avatar design he had in episode 1, it might have been believable..

    • I’d say Kirito is at least as good looking as (if not better looking than) most generic harem leads, and the fact he can fight certainly works in his favour as well. The thing is, Sword Art Online has a really interesting premise and potential for a good plot. I don’t want it to be just another harem series!

  3. Kokoro Connect is the surprise of the season. It really needs to gain some momentum to move to number one

    • It isn’t quite as polished as Natsuyuki Rendezvous, and can’t compete music or animation-wise (the K-ON! character designs don’t help, sadly). Still, I think it’d stand a good chance of taking 1st if it had another strong episode full of plot and character development, like the climax of the body-switching arc, which we’ll hopefully see towards the end of this new arc. 🙂

I can’t stand kokoro connect. I couldn’t sit through the first episode when I found out it wasn’t porn.
