2012 Anime – Top 12 ED Themes

In case anyone noticed the ‘Kaiji’ and ‘Mirai Nikki tags in my previous post on OPs… I’m sorry, I got lazy and copied the 2011 post, then (aside from correcting the year) forgot to edit the rest of the tags. 😮

Anyhow, continuing from before, here’s a list of my favorite ending themes of the year! A slightly easier list to put together, as opening themes tend to be more upbeat, fun and memorable, but there’s plenty of good EDs out there too, as I hope this post will remind people. 🙂

12: Queen’s Blade: Rebellion (future is serious – Aika Kobayashi)

Queen's Blade is serious, too.

The link is to the censored, more work safe (by Queen’s Blade standards) version of the ED theme. 😛 I imagine most people who watched the series will agree that the ending theme was better than the conclusion of the show itself.

11: Binbougami ga! (Koi Boudou – HAPPY BIRTHDAY)

baby, baby, oh...

To be honest, Binbougami-ga!’s ED is about as fanservice heavy as the Queen’s Blade theme. 😮 Not that I’m complaining about either… and yes, I do like the song even without the video that goes with it. 😛

10: Shin Sekai Yori (Wareta Ringo – Risa Taneda)

La da da da, soap bubble~

This series doesn’t really have an OP, but they’ve made up for that with an excellent ending theme that suits the show perfectly in my opinion.

9: Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai! (Coloring – Yui Horie)

Uncles~

By far the best ending theme of the winter season (that was used from start to finish) in my opinion, not that it had much to compete with. The series itself was much better than I expected too.

8: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure (Roundabout – YES)

[gg]_Jojo's_Bizarre_Adventure_-_04_[A142D988].mkv_snapshot_22.25_[2012.12.04_20.36.38]

It may have only become an ED this year, but apparently this song first came out in 1971!  Seems a bizarre choice of song, but that’s the name of the series, and Roundabout really works well.

7: Uchuu Kyoudai (Kokuhaku – Angela Aki)

*still feels so moon*

Back at number seven is Uchuu Kyoudai, the first series (so far) to place on both this year’s OP and ED lists! As a biological scientist, I like all the complicated words in this song. 😛

6: Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita (Yume no Naka no Watashi no Yume – Masumi Ito)

NEEDS MORE SPACE.Never before has the rise and fall of human civilization been portrayed with such pretty pastel colours or accompanied by such fairytale-sounding music. 😛 Am a huge fan of Masumi Ito’s music, so this was always going to rank highly.

5: Joshiraku – Nippon Egao Hyakkei – Momokurotei Ichimon)

So much to animate!

Probably the catchiest song on the list, and almost certainly the one I’ve played the most… it would have ranked much higher if it weren’t for all the awesome EDs that came out this season.

4: Inu x Boku SS (SM Hantei Forum – Kagerou Shoukiin)

Kagerou at his finest.

This series had a lot of ending themes, but only one has stayed in my mind for almost a whole year, and it is Kagerou’s. Heavily censored, pretty disgusting, but absolutely hilarious.

3: Psycho-Pass (Namae no nai Kaibutsu – EGOIST)

JELLYFISH!

Odd that I didn’t really like EGOIST’s themes in Guilty Crown, yet I find this one amazing. MUST. HAVE. FULL. VERSION! The accompanying animation is great too. 🙂

2: Ixion Saga DT (Let’s Go ED – Golden Ixion Bomber DT)

What sort of name is 'Variation' anyhow!?

Manservice~ I did stop at one point to think that maybe this list was a bit too heavy on ‘guilty pleasure’-type songs, particularly nearer the top half… but in the end I just decided to run with it, and blame my taste in music. 😛

1: Rinne no Lagrange Season 2 (Jersey-Bu Tamashi! – Kaori Ishihara, Asami Seto and Ai Kayano)

Maru~

Making up for its narrow defeat in the OP list, Jersey-Bu Tamashi! really was the only option for the No.1 ED. The music really was the best thing about Rinne no Lagrange, particularly the disappointing sequel, but when it’s this much fun I can forgive the series’ many faults. 😀
