Winter 2014 Episode Rankings – Week 8

I feel I’m back in the swing of things now, at last. All 18 shows aired as normal this week, and I’m up to date with them all, posting this only a day after the latest of them (Wizard Barristers) aired. The rankings themselves will still be a bit skewed, owing to last week’s mass hiatus, but I can live with that~

The death count continues to rise... I hope the series ends on a happier note!

Moving up:

It seems that any episode of Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren focusing on ‘Mori Summer’ is guaranteed to rank highly, mostly because Nibutani’s extreme reaction to her embarrassing past never fails to amuse me, but also because Dekomori’s personality change when in the presence of her idol is just cute. 🙂 Unfortunately, this Mori Summer really was a fake, and one with ulterior motives… and so, Nibutani is forced to take on the role once again, defeat the impostor, and bring the world to its natural order. 😛

In Space Brothers, Mutta’s fellow back-up astronauts now have a leader they can all respect, and slowly seem to be acting more like a team. But we still don’t know all that much about them. This week’s episode provided a little background for Betty, though – turns out her husband was one of the astronauts who died alongside Brian Jay in the landing craft crash. 😕 At least the incident hasn’t put an end to her desire to go to the moon, nor to her son’s interest in space. 🙂

Good to see Pico back in the series too, still messing about with random toys!

Moving down:

Yowamushi Pedal drops slightly, largely due to the end of the closely fought competition for places on the inter-high team! That was always going to be a tough act to follow. Another character development episode providing more information about Sohoku’s opponents is a good place to start though, and Manami in particular seems to have been set up as a rival for Onoda. 😀 Definitely looking forward to seeing them face each other!

More randomness in Hamatora this week… I vaguely recall something about a drug causing people to fall into a deep sleep, allowing them to escape reality and live happily in their own dream world. Moral also seemed to be up to even more mischief after killing and impersonating Art. However, it’s the bitter melon battle royale that sticks out in my memory more than anything else. 😛

These dream villains dropped almost as quickly as those in Samurai Flamenco!

General comments:

The war in Magi: The Kingdom of Magic was put on hold in this episode, after Sheherazade called the recently reunited Aladdin and Alibaba aside for peace talks. Much of these talks focused on Al-Thamen, who are apparently planning to destroy the world using Magnostadt’s large reserve of Black Rukh. Additionally, we learned that Sheherazade is in 268 years old, and that her real body is nearing the end of its life! This will also result in the death of her clones, including Titus, but following their discussion, Sheherazade undergoes a change of heart, and allows him to spend what time he has left with Aladdin and the others. Any chance of this peace continuing seems unlikely, however, as news of another invasion, this time by the Kou Empire, may push Mogamett over the edge. 😕

It's been a while since we last saw Aladdin and Alibaba go super deformed!
