No Yowamushi Pedal this week, which ruins my plan to focus on the four series continuing from last season! 😮 Ah well, these are supposed to be rankings posts, and now that we’re three weeks into the season I should stop with the intros and start justifying these arrows. 😛 But since there have been no major drops this time, let’s stick to the positives!
2 – Durarara!!x2 Shou ep 3 (↓ 1)
3 – Parasyte -the maxim- ep 15 (↓ 1)
4 – Death Parade ep 3 (↓ 1)
5 – Shirobako ep 15 (↑ 2)
6 – Ansatsu Kyoushitsu ep 3 (↑ 4)
7 – Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu Love! ep 3 (↓ 1)
8 – Akatsuki no Yona ep 15 (↑ 3)
9 – Tokyo Ghoul √A ep 3 (↓ 1)
10 – Aldnoah Zero S2 ep 3 (↓ 1)
11 – Yuri Kuma Arashi ep 3 (↑ 1)
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders S2 finally takes the top spot, something that previous series never quite managed! I love these more comedic encounters with Stand users, Polnareff’s well-meaning but hilariously cruel treatment of Enyaba being the obvious other example. And it was largely down to Polnareff that
Oingo Zenyatta was beaten this time, with help from Iggy. After getting caught breaking into their car, Zengo quickly disguises himself as Jotaro, and ends up accompanying Joseph, Polnareff and Iggy to the hospital… a decision he ends up regretting fast. Clearly he wasn’t bizarre enough for their party. 😛
Seems like Akatsuki no Yona will be taking a break from searching for dragons, and instead focusing on what Soo-Won’s getting up to as King. In the first half though, Yona’s party arrived at a largely abandoned village, where she learned that her Father’s peaceful reign wasn’t quite as perfect as she thought it was. Elsewhere, the new King pays a visit to the Earth Tribe, whose leader Lee Geun-Tae is eager to learn more about the son of Yu-Hong’s plans for war – but it seems he’d rather drink tea. Eventually he agrees to hold a mock-battle as part of a festival, which doesn’t do much to satisfy the general’s hunger for action and glory… knowing Soo-Won though, I assume there’ll be more to this game than meets the eye.
I watched the leaked 3rd episode of Ansatsu Kyoushitsu before hearing that the series was being delayed due to the horrible ISIS hostage situation. 😦 So I don’t know when it’ll be returning to my weekly rankings lineup. It was far more exciting than earlier eps, however, thanks to the introduction of a new character called Karma. Until now the series had a good setting, and Koro-sensei is of course hilarious, but the pupils of class 3-E hadn’t stood out. Karma’s underhanded but clever tricks managed to land the first few blows on Koro-sensei, but once the teacher knew to look out for him, it was game over. And it turns out he’s not such a bad guy either; he was betrayed by a teacher in the past, but soon realises that Koro isn’t like that.
Finally, Shirobako fared surprisingly well for an episode that was all about meetings. Table reads, location hunting, production meetings, supervising animator meetings, art board meetings, colouring meetings, CG meetings, filming meetings, accompaniment meetings… all of these are necessary before work on an animating even begins, and it’s possible that even this list might have been cut down to fit the episode. 😮 The purposes of these meetings were explained to us by the two mascot characters, and as usual it was both educational and highly entertaining! The last minute plot twist helped propel it further up the rankings – the manga-ka isn’t happy with the character designs, and wants all their work so far to be redone!
