No 3-gatsu no Lion this week. It feels like the first time in ages that a series has taken a break, or aired a recap episode or anything like that. I remember it being far more of a regular thing a few years back. Not that I’m complaining. 😛

That was definitely the best episode of Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari for a while. The show is always cute, and this episode was no exception, but it also had the added drama of Poco disappearing while Souta slept, leaving our main character scrambling around frantically trying to find him. He wonders how long his ‘parent – child’ relationship with this unusual tanuki will continue, which is a genuine fear – I hope the series doesn’t end on a sad note with them parting! Hiroshi falling for the married Rinko provided comedy to lighten the mood afterwards, at least. 😛
No happy endings in sight in Lostorage incited WIXOSS, that’s for sure – Turns out the Bookmaker Satomi is a Selector. I should have seen that coming, but I guess I’m used to people’s LRIGs reacting to nearby Selectors, which they didn’t for him. Additionally, he’s a former LRIG himself, who took over his current body after its former owner lost. He absolutely destroys Narumi in a battle, using stories about his sister to manipulate him. As far as our main characters are concerned, Suzuko is actually getting good at the game thanks to training from Hanna, and a newfound reason to keep winning; Chinatsu is completely under Satomi’s spell, falling further into darkness, and is dragging others into making contracts with him. Definitely getting more interesting!
A first time drop for Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku! On the whole, another fantastic episode, full of action and despair. I wish the pacing was a little slower, though – two magical girls dead after one big fight, and there wasn’t a lot of time to dwell on either before Calamity Mary’s character development and subsequent rampage began. Her death flag’s flying pretty high at this point, and with so many of the other girls heading towards her, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone else went as well. Somehow, I get the feeling that the killing won’t stop after they get down to half their original number as Fav promised, either. It’ll be interesting to see how Minael and Sister Nana act now that they’ve lost their other halves; I could imagine the latter going berserk.
Episode 8 of Shuumatsu no Izetta was a mixed bag, plenty of good, but the ‘romance’ between Ricelt and Bianca felt very rushed and forced. And when will anime get tired of the whole ‘walk-in while bathing/changing’ trope? Back to the good: Elystadt took a serious blow after enemy spies learned of Izetta’s secret, and unknown to them their ‘allies’ in Atalanta are planning on backstabbing them as well. I did think things were going too well! The masquerade and costumes were great, and Berckmann’s white haired companion is an intriguing character, drawing blood from Izetta. I wonder whether she’s a witch herself, or perhaps vampires are real in this series too!?
Bungou Stray Dogs S2 finally ranks at #1, it’s unbelievable how much I’m enjoying this series compared with the first one! Last episode introduced Port Mafia member Q, just the type of character I love: crazy and overpowered, controlling people who hurt him using fear. I was prepared for the battle of the year when he challenged the Guild’s Lovecraft… but clearly nobody can out-crazy Lovecraft. The Guild end up combining Steinbeck and the captured Q’s powers into a deadly city-wide weapon, a surprisingly unique idea given that there’s no end of ‘super power’ anime out there. Atsushi gets captured, but escapes with help from Lucy (their interactions are so cute). Mark Twain and Herman Melville appeared, and also had brilliant abilities. Loved it!
My patience has run out when it comes to Bloodivores. Each episode brings new twists, new information: new character Yaya’s necklace is about to explode, Lee Shin is scared of women, something about a glowing headache room… werewolves? Sure, why not? Stopping and answering some of the questions posed in the past seven episodes would be nice, though! I just feel like the writers got together, came up with as many plot ideas as they could, and decided to run with the lot of them. Meanwhile, the pacing remains bizarrely slow for a series that manages to cram so much in – I feel that if they’d stop talking/having flashbacks and started making progress towards escaping, they’d be out of Aori by now!
