Autumn 2016 Episode Rankings – Week 11

Nothing ended this week, but a whole load look as though they’ll be ending at 12 episodes, so expect a huge post next week… or thereabouts. I might not actually post it on Christmas day. 😛

A risky move. :o I'd completely forgotten about Kira's father.

Those little Pluma robots are terrifying.

Those little Pluma robots are scarier than the big one!

Moving up:

A highly action-packed episode of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans S2, yet it only ranks this highly. :/ This sequel is definitely lacking whatever made the first series so brilliant, but I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt and keep watching next season. My initial reaction to the Mobile Armour was fear and excitement, the fight against this monster should have been fantastic, but a mixture of Tekkadan acting calm and collected and Iok being an idiot made it seem rather trivial… until the massacre at the agricultural plant. Hopefully the final showdown will be better.

The revelations keep coming in Occultic;Nine, but far better paced this week, and with less nauseating angle changes to boot! The reason why Gamon and his fellow ‘ghosts’ can see living humans but not vice versa was explained in a way that made sense (in a pseudo-science/occult way). I did predict that Izumi was the masked exterminator, but I did not expect him to have also killed Gamon and Hashigami’s fathers! And now they have a target in Odd Eye, and a plan to defeat it… but no key, thanks to a few careless words from Asuna. Best episode so far, IMO.

Kaoruko still found time for silly faces during the final showdown. I'll miss the characters, if nothing else!

Moving down:

Bubuki Buranki S2‘s eleventh episode felt like the finale, I assume ep 12 will be more of an epilogue. It drops slightly due to the fast pacing, it was dumping info about Migiwa and time travel even as the final battle with Guy got underway. Guy disappointed by turning into a generic ‘god complex’ villain by the end, after being so ambiguous and sinister early on. Then Entei and Oubu combined to finish him off, perhaps hinting that Azuma and Reoko will get together despite the age gap? Nice action, fun at times due to side characters’ antics, but the writing’s as bad as ever.

As ever, I hate rating the concentrated cuteness that is Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari so far down, but this ep was just very slow-paced buildup to next week’s finale. Nothing new of any importance really happened until the very end – Souta again thought about his future with Poco, and did go as far as telling people he planned to adopt the child… but he didn’t seem to have a plan regarding the whole tanuki thing. Then the inevitable happened, and Poco’s tail was revealed to everyone. There was also more reminiscing about his father. Ep 12 should be far more interesting!

I do love Poco's attack stance, though!

General comments:

Nanbaka is apparently continuing for another series next season, but online as opposed to continuing its TV airing. Can I be bothered keeping this show on? Well, it has one more episode to try and win me over, but its chances aren’t looking great. This episode saw the Block 13 inmates get their rewards for the tournament, and invite their opponents from the tournament to enjoy them. Even Musashi mellowed out! We got some backstory for Nico and Rock, but nothing amazing – I just find the comedy repetitive, while the plot is weak and often ignored for episodes on end.

At the opposite end of the rankings, so far the final boss battle for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 4 feels every bit as good as the final battles against Dio and the Pillar Men from previous series. Just a shame that it didn’t have the same level of build-up. Both Josuke and Kira are using their Stand powers in new and exciting ways, and both are now critically injured… though things certainly look worse for the villain now that Jotaro’s party have noticed him. Glad to see Okuyasu isn’t dead, and always nice to see more of The Hand after such a long time!

Can confirm, stone oven pizza is on a whole other level.
