Winter 2017 Episode Rankings – Week 8

Catch-up time! Wow, I’ve fallen behind. I think I’ll keep this post short, partly because my memories of some of the earlier airing episodes are already getting hazy, but also because the Week 9 and even Week 10 episodes are piling up big-time. 😮

There are some things you just shouldn’t say before a big anime battle…

1 – Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans S2 ep 20 (↑ 1)

2 – Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! 2 ep 8 (↑ 2)

3 – Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu 2 ep 8

4 – Kuzu no Honkai ep 8 (↓ 3)

5 – Little Witch Academia TV ep 8

6 – Chaos;Child ep 8 (↑ 1)

7 – Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon ep 8 (↑ 1)

8 – Yowamushi Pedal: New Generation ep 8 (↓ 2)

The Axis cult’s tactics had me in stitches.

Moving up:

One thing I do remember from over a week ago is laughing hard at Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! 2. It’s my usual reaction, but this was a particularly great episode. Darkness has been and continues to be the best thing in this sequel, first for her reaction to the stampeding birds, and then to being continually vilified in the Axis cult town. Aqua attracting the undead to their travelling party was also brilliant. Looking forward to seeing the next episode right after I’m finished writing this!

Something different in episode 8 of ACCA: 13-ku Kansatsu-ka – The story of Princess Schnee (Jean’s mother), and how she left the royal family to live an ordinary life. This confirms that Jean and his sister are indeed royalty, the fact that their names aren’t on the family register likely providing little obstacle to the growing revolutionary movements. More than anything though, I enjoyed learning more about Nino and his back story. Definitely feels like this is going somewhere now, and that the slow buildup episodes may pay off!

I completely forgot about this guy until I went back to the episode for screenshots… Another doomed(?) relationship arises even at this late stage in the series!

Moving down:

Big reveal time in Kuzu no Honkai, with both Hana and Mugi confessing to their love interests… supposedly with the intent of getting rejected, getting that closure, so that they can form a proper relationship with each other now that their feelings for each other have grown that way. But if everything worked out nicely like that, this wouldn’t be Kuzu no Honkai. All I hope is that Hana has some sort of happy ending once this is all over! 😦

Kemono Friends is pretty much avoiding my Bottom 5 through hard effort and fun characters alone – objectively, it is bad, but I probably feel more affection for it than I do for any other show this season. Nice to finally meet the PPP penguins outside of the episode preview segment, too! I do really love the detail that goes into the character designs, incorporating the animals’ main features, and their behaviours into their personalities. Plenty of hints about the fate of the world and humanity this week too, as we learn the park is surrounded by ocean…

The concert was cute~

General comments:

I’ve said from the start that Sucy is my favourite character in Little Witch Academia TV, so getting a glimpse inside her head at the parts that make up her personality (along with those possible Sucys that her personality chooses to reject) was always going to be good. I think it just confirmed for me that the original Sucy is best though, from her nighttime experiments with Akko to the silent animated film showing how she sees her friends and classmates.

One of my favourite characters in ClassicaLoid is the often overlooked Schubert, so his also getting an episode dedicated to him this week was fantastic. He suddenly twigs that he doesn’t have a room of his own, and when the rest of the bunch don’t seem overly sympathetic, he almost gives up on life… until he’s dragged to America by a kite, where he meets his creator and Kanae’s father, who encourages him to be himself. That rap, where he told everyone what he truly thought of them, was probably the best musical piece from the series so far. 😀

Alpaca Sucy is a close second.
