500 Word Game Reviews: Ikenfell

June 5, 2022

Decided to take a break from older RPGs, after a few that I’d been hoping to play turned out to have too many compatibility issues, clunky controls, or simply proved too difficult for me to get on with!

I somehow ended up picking Ikenfell from the large pile of ‘games I got in a bundle somewhere’, and it turned out to be really LGBTQ+ friendly… accidental Pride Month post GET!

500 Word Game Reviews: Dragon Lore: The Legend Begins

May 1, 2022

Okay, so this next game isn’t strictly an RPG, more of a point-and-click adventure game with RPG elements. But it’s close enough that I didn’t even stop to think about it until after I’d completed it, so I hope you’ll forgive me! 😛

500 Word Game Reviews: Return to Krondor

March 20, 2022

Seems I’m managing to complete about one RPG per month so far, which wasn’t necessarily my goal, but certainly helps provide new blog content!

This time, I revisit Return to Krondor for the umpteenth time. A game based on fantasy author Raymond E. Feist’s Riftwar Legacy. A sequel to Betrayal at Krondor, which I haven’t played. And though it is subtitled ‘Book 1: Harbinger of Shadows’, plans for more games in the series fell through, ending on a cliffhanger until the release of a novella in 2013… I haven’t read that yet either. Knowing me, I’ll probably play through this again before doing either of the above. 😛

500 Word Game Reviews: Menzoberranzan

March 6, 2022

For my second RPG of 2022, we’re going back half a decade from Might and Magic VII, to look at one of the MANY Dungeons & Dragons-based PC games released at the time!

I had hoped that my (limited) knowledge of 5e rules would help at least a little, but the moment I realized having a low AC was a GOOD thing here, I knew I’d have to consult the manual. 😛

500 Word Game Reviews: Might and Magic VII – For Blood and Honor

February 6, 2022

It’s been a few months since my last game review, but I haven’t abandoned them! I’ve decided to focus on RPGs specifically for 2022 – I’ve always loved the genre, and have a ton of them installed and ready to play, but kept putting them off in favour of more casual games that require less time for exploration and grinding.

Needless to say, once I got past that first hurdle, the 65+ hours I sank into our next title felt like minutes. 😛

Touka Gettan

May 17, 2021

Last August, I asked my blog readers to vote on which series they’d like me to review. There were two winners. One of the series, I finished only a couple of months later, as I quite enjoyed it. Here’s the other…

500 Word Game Reviews: Lands of Lore – Guardians of Destiny

July 26, 2020

It feels like all my recent game reviews have all been on the newer, shinier, HD side. Time to go back a few decades, and back to a franchise I’ve already covered here before:

Lands of Lore: Guardians of Destiny (1997) – RPG, PC

500 Word Game Reviews: The Wolf Among Us

May 31, 2020

I just found out that WordPress is changing its post editor again, effective from tomorrow… time to get in one last post quick! It took ages for me to not hate the current version, which I only switched to after they started removing features from the one before it. Meh, maybe it’ll live up to the ‘new and improved’ promises, but I’m stubborn and just hate change. 😛

So, for what hopefully (and probably) won’t be my final blog post, here’s another game I’ve finally played though after years stuck on the back-burner:

The Wolf Among Us (2013) – Point-and-click, PC

500 Word Game Reviews: The Forest of Doom

May 9, 2020

I love gamebooks, especially the Fighting Fantasy series. I had a fairly substantial collection of them at some point, most of which vanished without a trace. Complete mystery. Thankfully, a few of the classics have been adapted to PC for this new digital age – but do they hold up compared with actual video games?

500 Word Game Reviews: Gray Matter

April 26, 2020

Despite the fact that I have an enormous backlog of unplayed games that I should be working through, this month I was in the mood for revisiting one of my favourite titles from years back. And so:

Gray Matter (2010) – Point-and-click, PC
